How to read this

  • Shares are out of all paid invoices; 17.6% had no recorded payment method and aren't shown.
  • The invoices come from US service businesses (trades like cleaning, landscaping, plumbing and IT), not only freelancers. The patterns are useful, but the exact numbers will differ for your clients and your country.
  • Checks are far more common in the US than in most of Europe, where bank transfer is the usual default.
  • This shows a pattern, not a cause: clients who pay by card may also be the ones who pay quickly anyway.

What you can do

  • Offer card payment alongside bank transfer.
  • Decide how you'll handle card fees: price them in, or let the client cover them.
  • Make the fastest option the easiest one to find on the invoice.
